My first day as a street magician in Oslo paid 27 kroner (about $2.70). Then came Barcelona. The street taught me the whole job: get strangers to stop, then give them a reason to stay.
Since then it’s been television in a dozen countries, the big cruise ships, corporate stages for audiences in the thousands, and my own theatre in Barbados. It’s still the job I did on the street.
The trick is the easy part. What I’m there for is the two seconds after, when a room full of adults turns to each other to check they all saw it.
